Oh Happy Days

Yes today is a wonderful day in the TulStig household for Tony and I have been together 30 years today.  We met on 14th September 1982 and have been pretty much inseparable since.  When the law changed in Spain concerning marriage we tied the know on our 25th anniversary, just 5 years ago, surrounded by family and friends- and what a wonderful experience that was:

Today Jane and Amy are back in the house ready to babysit when we fly off to Venice tomorrow to begin our cruise of the Adriatic, and tonight we are all going out to dinner at one of our favourite places, with the wonderful Julie. This afternoon Tony will be having his new teeth fitted, so happily he will be in the holiday photos.

And to the photo challenge.
Yesterday's was Table: So here's one of the buffet's I have prepared over the past year (this one for the school's end of year party)...

And today's prompt is 'Favourite' -
'Gilda's' - Our favourite restaurant of the moment, where we will be dining tonight...

Tuesday Chatter

Had a bit of a wobble today re my upcoming adventure -just over two weeks away and I had one of those 'Can I really?' moments. A bit of tummy butterflies accompanied the thoughts of 'All on my own' 'what if?' 'Am I fit enough still?' But I talked myself back down- 'I'm a 50 plus year old with common sense (well some) and a body that does me proud, I speak the language and I'm in for a right old time'. I looked at some of the pictures of the Primitivo and felt better -it's going to be magnificent... that doesn't mean my wobble has disiapted completely but I'm feeling better about it all again.....

I spent a bit of time today planning the menu for the school's end of Year Party- I've been asked to do the catering again. I think I've managed to cater for everyone's tastes, and have sent the menu off to Ellen for comments- once approved I'll post it for everyone to check out.

This evening we've been enjoying the concert for the Queen's jubilee, live from the Palace, whilst stuffing our faces with Ferrero Rocher chocolates - decadent life we lead here. It's been great to see the future king singing along and partying (wills I mean not his Pa) with his bro - reminded me a bit of Andrew's 50th party where we sang a few duets!!.

'Two little boys' - The Rolf Harris Classic - The first ever single I bought - And I still remember EVERY word. How amazing is the mind in holding this kind of info, and I know if Andrew is watching in Henfield he'll be singing along too.

On-line connecting

I've been busy writing again today (after a bit of shopping and cleaning that is) and am enjoying the unfolding of the second instalment of the story. Little by little I will get this finished and published too- so if you are waiting for it please be patient.

One of the things that 'disturbs' my focus is the ability to have an 'internet window' open on the laptop and thus answer e-mails etc. Today I got into a bit of 'magic of the Camino' promotion. With Nick's help I managed to update my understanding of how twitter works and have been networking with hash-tags. If it promotes a few more sales it will all be worth it.

Whilst writing I also had a couple of 'Skype' interruptions too.  Firstly (auntie) Barbara video called for a chat, which was nice, as we rarely chat on the normal land-line. We caught up on some family gossip and on what we are both up to. They are off on a cruise in  a week- visiting the Norwegian Fjords.

Then an even bigger surprise when I got an e-mail from Bob and Tom, friends who used to live near us in London, but who moved to Brighton long before we moved here. They too are cruising this year and have a stopover in Barcelona so suggested we meet up, after not having seen each other for about 20 years. They gave me their Skype name so I found them and they too video-called for a chat.

So you can see now why sometimes my plan to write is diverted, but always with good reason.

Oh and for foodie fans today's lunch was macaroni with meatballs and mushrooms in a tomato sauce- Yumm.

And another photo showing another of my passions- my big babes- Xali and Cuddy.

Looked after

A couple of nights ago I dreamt I was on the Camino, and I was walking with my Nan, who died many years ago, but whom I often feel is with me. On the night she died Tony and I were in Spain. That night I dreamt about her too - she simply came to say goodbye -I cried for hours and when we got home we found out she had died whilst we were away. To know that she's coming walking with me is fantastic and makes me even more secure in knowing it will be OK.

This morning I woke after a great night out last night - drinks in the sidreria followed by dinner in the Indian - with very little idea of what I was going to teach in my morning's classes.

I walked the dogs, still no inspiration, sat on the bus, still no inspiration, got to school picked up a book and it fell open on something that was relevant -to whichever of my angels that was looking after me then - a huge thank you.

Happily both classes went as well as always - I really enjoy my Saturday classes, and hope my students enjoy them as much as I do, and from my view it does appear they do.

On arriving home my dear husband had lunch ready for me - a broccoli an potato soup which was delicious, and eating in the garden makes all the difference. I then spent the afternoon reading -what luxury, before dozing off for half an hour or so on the sofa cuddled up with Cuddy.

This evening I've done a bit of writing, and the story is really coming together, and like before there are many paths it could go along- I'm leaving it to my characters to lead the way.

All in all it seems like someone is caring for me every way I turn today.

Tommy's birthday

Another great day here at Casa TulStig - not in small part to the book I've just finished:

I think I may have mentioned before that I haven't always liked Louise Hay's writing, but this one has pushed me back onto the positive life track that I so love. It has many affirmations which I've started using, and it's also reinforced my beliefs in the laws of abundance and attraction.  A definite recommendation for reading.

As per usual I started the day by feeding the kids- and as today was Tommy's 4th birthday breakfast included an additional treat of tuna. Then a walk with Xali and Cuddy in the warmth of the sunshine.  Next job to answer e-mails and other posts etc, and write the TulStig newsletter for last month (did you get your copy- if not and you want one let me know and I'll add you to our mailing list)

Lunch was in the garden - cream of garlic soup- delicious

Followed by a bowl of strawberries and cream. For the animals there was a selection of pork chops- another treat for Tommy's birthday. Strangely (not) there are no pictures of the meat!!

After lunch we relaxed a while in the garden.

Cuddy, Xali (Vinnie in the background)
 Birthday boy Tom and Sprout

before retiring to the living room for a little writing, some TV and a delicious dinner of (veggie) meatballs with a tomato sauce and spaghetti.Once again followed by strawberries with mashed banana.

The perfect end to another perfect day.

It's raining, it's pouring....

Yup the old man is snoring- taking his afternoon siesta, so whilst I wait for my mona to bake and my eggs to harden (Fnaar) I thought I'd update t'blog.

  • April Fools Walk in Sussex & buffet.

Last Saturday I flew into Gatwick for a few days at Andrew and Jane's house, primarily because we had organised the, what looks like will be the annual Sussex pre-Easter walk.
Everybody involved turned up in good time. Jan got a little lost but was only at the end of the road so we were out of the house and on our way just before 11.00am.
Our first stop was in Fulking, at the Shepherd and dog.  It seemed right to walk about an hour before breaking just as we started each day on our Caminos. It had been many years since I had been to the Shepherd and of course it had changed. It has almost all been renovated, losing a lot of its old charm, but nonetheless it was still a suitable place for a stop, before climbing the Fulking Escarpment.

This is quite a steep incline, which caused some of our party a little aggravation, and it forms part of the South Downs Way, which Jane intends to walk next year.  However we all made it to the top without incident, and enjoyed the views it afforded us of the Sussex countryside, which were spectacular.
Along the ridge we traversed next, passing the Upper Beeding/Truleigh Hill Youth Hostel, to a steep drop just before stopping at Tottington Manor.

This is the Hotel Caroline & I managed just over 30 years ago. We worked here with Hatty and Rosie, and many assorted chums.  To say it was a 'Fawlty Towers' experience would be both over-rating and under-rating it at the same time for differing reasons. It was hard work but great fun.
We were met here by Carla, Nick and Frankie for a quick and refreshing pint, before we were back on our way for the last and short leg back to Andrew and Jane's place for a spot to eat:

Before I left yesterday Jane and Kerri were already planning a route for next year, probably to include Shoreham.

  • Shopping with Janey

Well I kinda think the picture says it all- We just enjoy our shopping trips and always end up being silly!!

  • A family Day out in Chichester & Arundle

On Tuesday Andrew took a day out of his busy schedule and we had a day out in Chichester. We started with a bit of shopping around the old town shopping centre, and stopped for a late breakfast at Greggs the Bakers, where they make the most delicious veggie Pasties:

After a little more shopping and a car trip around the edges of Arundle Castle we stopped  at a little pub by the river Arun, but unfortunately as we hadn't booked the couldn't fit us in -all the tables were full, apart from the ones outside, but by now it had started spitting and had cooled down too much for our liking. SO Andrew drove on to a little pub in Houghton called the George and the Dragon, where the service was very friendly and the food delicious- now for me that's a huge compliment as although I'm not fussy I do too often think  'Ah I could have done better at home!'.

  •  A Cuppa with Hatty & Rosie.

On Monday Jane and I had to pop into Steyning (where I went to school) to do a bit of banking and as I had spoken to Hatty the day before we arranged to meet at the Steyning Tearooms. Jane and I arrived first and took a seat, soon to be joined by Hatty, Rosie and Rosie's daughter Amy.  I hadn't seen Hatty for over 10 years, and Rosie and I hadn't met up for about 20 years. Needless to say we had loads of catching up to do., and the conversation flowed. The waitress didn't appreciate our custom, and was less than friendly telling (or rather growling at) us 'Can I take your order now, as you area big party and we're going to be busy in a minute". Later on Annie and Julie joined us (Julie I hadn't seen for about 25 years!)- The waitress was most put out that our party had increased and checked with Annie and Julie 'Are you going to order then'- we decided she must have gone to a wonderful charm school!! The place is very well decked out but the prices and surly service mean we won't be returning there again. Hatty and Rosie have now promised to pop over to Casa TulStig for a break soon. Julie also wants to visit and with a bit of luck she'll drag Annie over with her.

  • Family Nonsense.

Whenever we get together Andrew and I usually have a least one round of giggling like kids till we cry. Well we did just that again. On Monday evening we had the leftovers from the buffet (Kerri's chilli was even better the next day!!) so bought some tortilla wraps to have with them. Andrew, being a slightly fussy eater, didn't want any of the usual buffet fare so had a cheese and onion pasty and Ham wrap.

During dinner we got the giggles over something that if I could remember it wouldn't be funny now, but all four of us (Amy joined us) were laughing till we cried.

  • A new addition at Tottington Drive

Since Jane's cats passed away she has had a hankering to get another. Recently one of Andrew's clients: a Cattery (Cat's boarding kennel) had received a visitor- a kitten. The cattery traced its owners, and found them to be quite uncaring of what happened to the kitten. o they took him in and Jane got in contact with them saying she would like to take him.  On Wednesday morning, before I flew home, Jane and I went to pick up Bertie, as she named the young man. He's a delightful chap and so friendly. He's settling in quite well,, but doesn't like being kept in, which Jane has to do for a while or the little blighter might just wander off again.

  • Home again

As Always its nice to go travelling, but just as nice to get home again. I managed to stuff my case with loads of goodies once again - Marmite being the most important.  Toady it's been raining most of the day, and I've been catching up on some of my PC chores and stuff, as well as making Easter Eggs and a Mona cake for Julie. I'll probably update n how that all went tomorrow.

But I think for now that'll do. As you have seen I've had a wonderful little break and now am looking forward to a relaxing Easter weekend.

My kids....

This morning I took Cuddy and Xali on a slightly longer walk, feeling that my leg was well enough to do so. I really love the way the gamble around. Cuddy loves water and after the rains of a few days ago there's a huge puddle on our walk that she loves to play in. She's completely crazy playing in it, and sticks her head right the way under, blowing bubbles, just so she can find just the right stone to carry around for the rest of the walk.

Xali is more reserved and gently walks along the edge of the puddle occasionally sipping as he pauses. However he does love to run in the sports field, and it is a pure JOY to see him gambling about, and a relief to see he is still full of the spark of life. He may be heading towards 13 years old, but still acts like a puppy now and again.  At times I feel like I am dragging myself out of bed to take them out, but as soon as we get in the fields and they start their antics I realise it is all, and always, worthwhile.

The cats are happy the sun is out again too, and have spent a lot of the day running, or rather chasing each other around the yard and back in. This does means that the floor is grubby as quickly as it is cleaned, but their games give me the greatest of laughs too.

If you didn't know by know, my animals are my JOY and get and deserve the love I lavish on them. I couldn't imagine our house without them.

Moving, keep moving....

This morning was my quarterly check up at the docs- and I am more than pleased to report that everything is just about tickety boo - including a drop in my cholesterol levels to 4.0.

After the meeting with Doctor Dishy - and that is no joke he's seriously date-able and so much more - I had my final treatment with JanWillem, the vet. Once again I left there floating and hopefully things will continue to improve. I haven't had any real pain today so that's a plus one... I'll be keeping you posted.

Driving up into the mountains the rain was lashing down and it so much reminded me of the day on the Camino when Jane and I walked in the rain for almost the whole day down from O'Cebreiro... oh such happy times.

Weekend Surprises...

Over the weekend we were missing in action from the blog site I'm afraid- well we had a secret mission in hand and were off and away.

After month's of planning with sister in law,Jane, and niece, Amy Tony and I were planning a surprise arrival at my brother, Andrew's birthday party. Andrew was 50 just a little while back, but they were in Barbados partying on the day, so we'd agreed to celebrate this last weekend. We'd had a few moments when we thought we'd given the game away, but fortunately not..... To see his face as he opened the door and saw us standing there- PRICELESS!!  He clearly had no idea!!

So we left here early Saturday morning, flew to Gatwick where we were picked up by Amy. We then did a little shopping, both for the birthday boy and some goodies to bring home. Then we stopped off in Henfield for a while - the village in which I grew up. We dropped into one of the local hostelries for a pint or two before heading out to Andrew and Jane's place. Amy dropped us off at the top of the road and then went off to the do. ten minutes or so later, as agreed, we knoked at the door. Andrew answered and had such a look on his face it was magic. Yup I almost cried!!

Well -The party went on into the later hours and of course I may have had one or two G&Ts too many but we had great time. The evening ended with Andrew and I duetting on Sing-star -a kind of karaoke game.

ON Sunday I cooked breakfast before we headed out to the George (another hostelry) in Henfield for lunch. Before going we called ahead to check there were veggie options, and the chef said he could make sure there was so we booked a table- I ordered the Sunday lunch option without meat and with veggie gravy as previously agreed with the chef on the phone- it confused the waitress slightly but I must say it was exceptional.  . It was the kind of Sunday lunch I would do myself- now believe me that is five star praise.

After that we had to head back to the airport for our flight home, which wasn't a wonderful experience  -thanks Easyjet, but hey ho one in fifty flights or so being a bit off kilter matters not much.

And as for the goodies we managed to haul home: (How many can you name?)
